o9 Tech For Impact: o9 launches partnership with Revivn

o9’s Social Impact team and IT department have launched :o9 Tech for Impact, a global initiative to expand the lifespan of o9’s IT hardware. To do so, o9 partnered with Revivn, a certified B Corp that collects used technology devices to refurbish them and make them available for nonprofit and social impact organizations that can use them.

If devices have reached the end-of-life (EOL) phase, Revivn will recycle the components and materials, to reduce the amount of e-waste that ends up in landfills. 

Why did we launch o9 Tech for Impact?

Through this initiative, o9 wants to bridge the digital divide by refurbishing our IT devices and donating them to organizations that otherwise would not have access to this technology. By recycling EOL devices, we’re contributing to the circular economy by separating materials and following international standards so that devices can be reused or assembled in new items. This creates a positive impact on the environment and on communities in need. 

o9 Tech for Impact is a global initiative that involves all our office locations. We also want to allow o9 employees to participate in this initiative by collecting employee IT hardware. o9ers can bring older devices to their local o9 office and Revivn will collect devices to refurbish or recycle.  

The first Revivn collection took place at our headquarters in Dallas on February 18, 2022. Approximately 301 lbs of IT equipment, which otherwise would have ended up in a landfill, was repurposed. From that, 8 lbs of miscellaneous items were ethically recycled by a SERI R2-certified recycler, and 49 pieces of electronics (30 laptops, 16 IP phones, 1 printer, 1 monitor, 1 tablet) were donated to the following organizations:

• Impact
  Impact provides free academic help and support for students in underserved communities through academic enrichment, tutoring, and mentorship.
• HIAS
  HIAS stands for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety, and opportunity. HIAS provides vital services to refugees and asylum seekers worldwide and advocates for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives.
• PEPY Empowering Youth
  PEPY Empowering Youth provides personal and professional development training to rural youth in Siem Reap, Cambodia. They are a team led by local Cambodians dedicated to helping youth identify their dreams and find pathways to success. Their interwoven programs begin at the high school level and provide holistic support for young students to have the tools, network, and resources to succeed in school and thrive in a professional setting.

Thanks to our partnership with Revivn, o9 Solutions reduced its carbon footprint by 0.22 tons of CO2 due to its first device collection event. To further raise internal awareness about e-waste, an internal Social Impact Talk with Revivn has been organized and will take place on April 20, 2022.
